Meat Rigs

Cut Bait Rigs /Cut Bait Heads

Meat rigs are trolling setups used primarily for targeting large predatory fish like salmon and lake trout. They feature a rotating bait head that holds a strip of natural bait (usually herring or alewife), which spins to mimic a wounded baitfish. Typically, meat rigs include flashy teaser flies, a strong leader line, and one or more hooks, often run behind a large flasher or paddle to enhance attraction. They’re most effective when trolled slowly at 1.7–2.2 mph, You can fine-tune the spin rate to about one revolution per second and swap out bait regularly to maintain effectiveness.
